Many of them are in stunningly beautiful surroundings - with backdrops that include majestic mountain ranges and the picturesque North Carolina coastline. Pinehurst, renowned as the 'home of American golf', hosted the US Open in 1999 and 2005, and is the only course to have held the event twice.
