Let Dubai entertain you
Dubai continues to attract visitors from around the world, providing the ultimate entertaining break – and attractions over the 2010 won’t fail to impress.
From world-class music throughout the year, art and literature at Art Dubai (17-20 March), Dubai Summer Surprises (17 June-7 August) and Dubai International Film Festival in December; Dubai really does offer something for everyone.
Music lovers will enjoy the eclectic array of stars performing in Dubai this year; from Elton John and Santana performing live at the 2010 Dubai World Cup at the new Meydan stadium on March 27 to Bob Geldof on 19 March, playing at The Irish Village. And in May Rod Stewart will be performing at 7he Sevens Stadium with special guests Spandau Ballet. Many more performances are set to be announced in the coming months.
Visitors can indulge a love of the aesthetic at Art Dubai (17-20 March) which is the defining platform for contemporary art in the region offering an extensive programme of exhibitions and events. Now in its fourth year, Art Dubai shows pieces from over 60 galleries in Europe, the USA, South America and Asia.
For the summer months the family-friendly Dubai Summer Surprises runs from 17 June-7 August, focusing on both fun and education. During the celebrations the city comes to life with international theatre, street performances, fashion shows, nightly fireworks with laser shows, prize draws, film festivals, children's events and handicraft shows.
Shoppers can redeem major discounts across a vast range of must-haves throughout Dubai’s many world-class malls, from jewellery to fashion, electrical goods and carpets. Pieces by some of fashion’s biggest names are also up for grabs, so there is no better time to visit Dubai.
For film fans the sixth Dubai International Film Festival will run in December 2010. The theme of the festival is “Bridging Cultures, Meetings Minds”, which is at the forefront of the festival’s culture and one that continues to draw people around the world to enjoy the films on offer, including top film stars and film makers. Visitors to the last year’s festival included Gerard Butler, Matt Dillon and Mandy Moore.
Downtime in Dubai is no less stimulating. The emirate has a wealth of world-class restaurants offering cuisine from all four corners of the globe, catering for all tastes and budgets.
And after hours, guests can unwind and enjoy Dubai’s vibrant nightlife. Sheesha cafés offer a traditionally Arabian experience, whilst visitors can also enjoy a selection of bars including the world famous Buddha Bar at Grosvenor House and Vu’s Bar at Emirates Towers which offers spectacular views of the city from the 51st floor.
