News From Larnaka – City Gets Arty And On The Love Bus

A brand new double-decker open-air bus tour of Larnaka has been introduced offering a great, “hands free” way for visitors to see and learn more about the city and region. The first bus, named “Love Bus” will depart for a one-hour tour five times a day and will take in the highlights of the city including the old aqueduct of Kamares, the ancient harbour of Kition and the Medieval Castle. The starting point will be the Palm Trees promenade known as Phoinikoudes.

The weekend of 31 July 2010 will see Larnaka host Cyprus’ first ever graffiti competition, entitled “Larnaka Art Project, Past, Present, Future” as part of a contest to create a new graffiti mural for the town. Graffiti artists will be shortlisted for the competition and the finalists will then have the opportunity to spray paint their competing artworks, which must reflect the theme of the project. The event will take place in a specially designated area in the Larnaka-Dekeleia Road with a suitable canvas to showcase the street art.

The initiative is being organised by the Larnaka Regional Tourism Body with collaboration from the Cyprus Tourism Organisation and the Municipality of Larnaka and is intended to enhance the area’s appearance with artworks being presented around the town as well as promoting the area’s rich history and culture.
